GENERAL SCOPE AND CONTENTS:

The archives specializes in Jefferson County history. We are housed at and maintained by the staff of the Jefferson College Library.

MAJOR COLLECTIONS:

1. Jefferson County Probate Court files.
2. Miscellaneous Jefferson County records (over 1000 volumes) with particular emphasis on records of the various courts. Oldest record book - 1830.
3. Personal property tax records, (1846-1859, 1871-1933).
4. County inquest records, (1932-1958).
5. Tri-City Independent newspapers on microfilm, (1913-1952).
6. Jefferson County Democrat on microfilm (1869-1940)
7. Jefferson County Deeds on microfilm (1819-1887)
8. Oral history collection assembled in the late 1970's.
9. Rural school records abstracts on computer (1910-1950s)
