Preserving Born Digital Content - NEDCC Webinar

During this webinar facilitated by the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC), instructor Katherine Fisher will cover topics that support the curation of born digital content across its lifecycle, including how to identify rights, transfer content and its ownership to a repository, document and preserve significant properties, and maintain the security and integrity of content over time. Identifying appropriate methods for access will also be covered.

Participants will conclude the session with an understanding of the requirements for appraising, transferring, processing, and maintaining the security of born digital collections over time. The webinar will include time for participant Q&A.

Katherine Fisher is head of digital archives at Emory University’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, & Rare Book Library, where she oversees acquisition, preservation, and access work for born-digital and digitized collections and provides leadership and expertise in digital preservation and digital collection management across Emory Libraries. Prior to joining Emory in 2020, she worked as digital preservation archivist at Georgia State University Library and digital publishing specialist at the University of Hawai‘i Press. She is a frequent instructor for the Georgia Archives Institute and for NEDCC’s Digital Directions training conference, where she leads workshops on born-digital collections and digital preservation, and she currently chairs the Society of American Archivists’ Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) Subcommittee. She holds an MSLIS from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and a PhD in English Language and Literature, with a focus on 20th-century British and Irish literature, from the University of Michigan.
