Third of three sessions, Pop-Up Professional Development Sessions:

“LGBTQIA+ History: From Closets to Archives”, June 15, 2022, 1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m., CDT.

Presented by Steven Louis Brawley.

This is the third and final session of ASLAA’s first Pop-Up Professional Development Sessions lasting from June 13-15, 2022. The sessions are accessible via Zoom and discuss the challenges of documenting underrepresented groups in archives. These presentations will look at the types of gaps in the historical record, misinformation, and ways researchers and archivists are overcoming these challenges.

Presentations will be approximately 20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions. 

Steven Louis Brawley is a public historian noted for his research related to LGBTQIA+ and pop culture topics. He is the Founder of the St. Louis LGBT History Project, a Trustee of the State Historical Society of Missouri and Co-chair of the Exhibit and Collecting Initiative of the Missouri History Museum. Brawley is the author of Gay and Lesbian St. Louis and is also a frequent lecturer at educational institutions and a presenting member of the Organization of American Historians. A sixth-generation Missourian, he has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri–St. Louis and a master’s degree from Saint Louis University.
